Job Summary
Transports freight safely and on schedule between facilities, customers, and distribution points. Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintains accurate logs, and represents the organization professionally at every stop.
Essential Functions
- Operate a commercial motor vehicle safely in compliance with all DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report defects promptly
- Plan routes for on-time delivery while accounting for traffic, weather, and hours-of-service limits
- Load, secure, and unload freight, verifying counts against shipping documents
- Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELD), delivery receipts, and fuel records
- Communicate proactively with dispatch about delays, mechanical issues, or schedule changes
Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record
- Current DOT medical card
- 2+ years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience
- Ability to pass a DOT drug and alcohol screening program
- Familiarity with ELD systems and hours-of-service regulations
Preferred:
- Hazmat, tanker, or doubles/triples endorsements
- Experience with refrigerated or flatbed freight
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent; CDL Class A and DOT medical card required
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods, climb in and out of the cab, and handle freight up to 50 lbs during loading and unloading.
Pay range example: $62,000–$78,000 per year, or $0.55–$0.70 per mile (adjust to your market and route type)
