Role snapshot

The Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks this occupation as Secretaries and Administrative Assistants (SOC 43-6014), with about 1.9M workers and median annual pay of $47,540. Pay data: BLS OEWS May 2025.

That’s the scale this template is built for: a full essential-functions list, separated required and preferred qualifications, and a pay-range placeholder for your actual range. The range stays a placeholder deliberately — posting requirements differ by state, so the finished pay language should reflect where you’re hiring, not just the national figures above.

Administrative Assistant template FAQs

Is an administrative assistant exempt or non-exempt under the FLSA?

Administrative assistants are typically classified as non-exempt, which is how this template marks the role. The administrative exemption requires real independent judgment on significant matters — most assistant roles don't meet it — so confirm the classification against the duties and salary tests before you post.

What should an administrative assistant pay range look like?

Post the hourly or salary range the role actually pays, tied to the experience level you're hiring for. Keep it consistent with what the role earns — assistant candidates compare postings closely on pay and schedule.

What skills belong in an administrative assistant posting?

List the actual systems and duties: scheduling and calendar management, document preparation, the software the role uses daily, and confidentiality expectations. Keep requirements realistic — inflated credential requirements shrink the pool.

What should a hybrid administrative assistant posting include?

Spell out which days are in-office and what the remote setup looks like — several states apply their posting rules based on where applicants are located, not where the company is headquartered. This template's work-type line is where to state it.
